NZFMA Accreditation Program

The New Zealand Accreditation program has been developed to create a minimum competency level for all over-the-counter staff that operate in New Zealand.

The program has been designed to ensure that staff who operate in this market have the necessary skills to undertake their role and to meet all self-regulatory, regulatory and legal requirements.

The New Zealand Financial Services Accreditation Program has two components - the Core Module and the Product Specialist Module.

The Core Module covers all aspects of the New Zealand financial markets - the economy, regulatory bodies, trading techniques, trading room roles, operation of markets, definitions of products, the role of risk and its measurement as well as a detailed look at the laws that govern the OTC markets.  Once study is completed participants undertake an online examination.

Following completion of The Core Module, participants undertake a Product Specialist Module - either Foreign Exchange & Derivatives or Interest Rates & Derivatives.  These modules are highly specialised and go into detail about specific products, their use, the pricing of products and their risks.  Once study is completed, participants undertake an online examination.

Both modules can be undertaken solely as self-study or with the addition of a training workshop.

For those who have previously completed the Australian Financial Services Core Module, a Bridging Course covering New Zealand's regulatory environment is available as a self-study module with an online examination.  Completion of the Australian Financial Services Core Module plus the New Zealand Bridging Course satisfies NZFMA's requirements for the New Zealand Financial Services Core Module.

When both the Core and a Specialist Module are completed and the examinations passed, the participant will be eligible to apply for Accredited Individual status to the NZFMA Accreditation Committee.  If accepted, the participant will receive a notification of Accreditation and will be required to undertake and meet ongoing education requirements to maintain that Accreditation.
